CANRAIL PASS:
Ticketing
Holders of a Canrail Pass must obtain a ticket for every journey by presenting their Canrail Pass to an authorized VIA Rail sales agent. The number of places available in Economy class for Canrail Pass holders is limited. We recommend advance reservation.
A Canrail Pass is not transferable. You must be prepared to show identification or sign your ticket on request.
Validity
The Canrail Pass is valid for journeys on any VIA Rail train, and on buses providing transfer between Moncton and Saint John. It is not valid on trains and buses that are listed in the VIA timetable but operated by other companies.
The Canrail Pass is valid for 30 days. It entitles you to 12 days' travel in Economy class over this 30-day period.
Extension: up to 3 days' extra travel can be purchased during the 30-day validity period.
The refund terms that apply are the same as those for the regular Canrail Pass.
Journeys for which you buy tickets with your Canrail Pass must end before midnight on the last day of validity of your pass.
First Class Upgrades Available
As a Canrail Pass holder, you are entitled to a seat in Economy class (basic service).
For a surcharge, you may upgrade to first-class accommodation (Sleeper, VIA 1,etc. ).
As a Canrail Pass holder, you are eligible for any discounts available in first class, provided that applicable conditions are met.
Between Toronto and Vancouver during the peak summer season, upgrading to Silver & Blue sleeper class can only be arranged in the 21 days prior to departure.
Refunds
The price of your Canrail Pass can be refunded only if it has not been used, and if all tickets issued against the card have been surrendered. A $30 cancellation charge will be deducted for every card refunded. Once a Canrail Pass has been used, it can no longer be refunded.
Unused tickets must be returned marked "Cancelled". No refund will be given for lost or stolen passes.
